School Closing Announced

LETTER FROM JEFF HENDERSON - SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
The Sacred Heart Board of Education voted at its meeting on January 18, 2012 to close Sacred Heart School at the conclusion of the 2011-2012 school year.

Providing quality Catholic Education for every young person is a responsibility that the Sacred Heart Board takes very seriously and is at the heart and soul of the decisions they must make. Each option considered in their decision-making process presented pros and cons which were weighed and considered. The final decision carried with it many emotions that are rooted in tradition and history of the parishes.

Jumping for a Cause

Jump Rope for Heart is a National program of the American Heart Association. The program is designed to educate kids in school about their own heart, how it works and how to protect it. Classmates find out more about heart disease and learn ways to lead healthier and longer lives. They also learn about other kids who have special hearts – kids with hearts that don’t work right. This program encourages kids to raise money that will be sent to the American Heart Association to pay for new medicines and treatments. Sacred Heart kids, grades 2 -6, are excited to participate in Jump Rope For Heart unit in physical education classes. Jump Rope for Heart banners (since 2006-07 school year) are proudly displayed in the school gym. On January 30th, kids will hold a special Jump for Rope Event and the money raised will go the American Heart Association.

Ringing in the New Year...

Sacred Heart first and second grade students get ready to ring in the new year!

bells

The new spring semester has begun at Sacred Heart School. In the music dept., students will focus on the melody unit by performing on instruments. They will develop skills in note reading and writing, improvisation, composing, listening, analyzing, and describing music. Each student will use melody instruments that provide an active ‘hands on’ approach to music education. These include resonator bells, xylophones, glockenspiel, metalophone, hand chimes, boom whackers, and more.

Studies have shown that early musical training helps develop the left side of the brain that involves language and reasoning. Noah’s Ark Preschool and Sacred Heart Kindergarten students sing familiar songs in their classroom to link to new information for learning and retention. The repetition of music and rhyme helps to imprint information on these young minds.
